Why I'm Running
Hi, my name is Eric Hayler and I am the Democratic Party candidate for district #37 of South Carolina's House of Representatives. A few years ago, I had two life changing events happen to me. First was the birth of my daughter Zora. If you're a parent, you know how children can change the way you look at the world. Zora is three years old now.
The second event was hurricane Katrina. A couple of days after Katrina hit the Gulf coast, I loaded-up an SUV full of supplies and drove to Gulfport Mississippi. Once there, I connected with the Salvation Army and I spent more than a week helping out any way that I could. I served food, I helped people recover personal items from their destroyed homes and I coordinated volunteers. I also worked with the Mexican army clearing neighborhoods.
It was an incredibly horrible event. However, I returned home with a good feeling. A feeling like I had helped, like I had made a difference in people's lives. It was a feeling I hadn't had in a very long time. Ever since then, I have tried to help people in any way that I can. For example, I have become a leader in a multinational non-profit organization that works to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty. I also work with a local organization that seeks to provide free training and tools to schools to continuously improve the way thousands of businesses have around the country.
Now I want to serve the people of Spartanburg County and the people of South Carolina. I will work tirelessly for you in the state Legislature and I will always listen closely to my customers -- you! I would like to count on your vote in November!
